Week 5 Term 2 inter class relay

On Monday we had Mr Mc Cabe for our reliever because Mrs Crowe was at a maths course during our volleyball time Mr Mc Cabe had an interesting talk to us about human greed and his opinion that in twenty years there will not be any fish left in the sea because humans are greedy and just want more and more.He spent an hour talking to us about child poverty and whale farming in japan and how they say they do it for research but his opinion is that they don't.

On Tuesday i carried on trying to finish my work and of course I did science this week we carried on creating our marble run. me and Jess made our marble run of the go through the middle our structure then are going to carry on spiraling it around the outside. We have to think about the gradient of our ramps two make it twenty when the marble gets to the bottom.

On Wednesday we were going to do some maths work on ratio but we were interrupted by the fact that we have to the ICAS science test so that is what we did the year sevens had 55 minuets to finish their test and the year eights had one hour to complete their test.

On Thursday I got to school early and finished my reading to get it in on time i have not finished my  writing yet but are going to try get it done. I also finished the maths that I had too do. We went  out for PE today we did it against some other classes we spit into a year 7 and year 8 team. For PE we did relays in our teams we had one wooden stick we ad to get round a field made of six cones each person in our team ran from one cone to the next  passing the stick o the next person. the stick had to make it round the field four times.

This weekend our school has four days of  weekend this Friday we have teachers only then this weekend is the queens birthday weekend which makes Monday a holiday this weekend is also the weekend of my birthday party. For my BDAY party I am going to adrenaline forest. Adrenaline forest is a series of obstacles from tree to tree. The course concludes of six stages each stages higher than the next. I have been wanting to go there for so long neither me or my friends have ever been there.

Week 4 Term 2

On Monday we had our assembly and Mr Mc Cabe talked to us about bullying and how its not okay. We also watched a volleyball video we learnt some drills and some ways to help improve our skills the video was not filmed in New Zealand so the instructor had a accent that to us sounded funny one of the drills was to through a ball at the wall and when it bounced back volley it back to the wall and repeat.

On Tuesday we had science our challenge was to  create something that would transport a straw from one side of the room to the other and back we could only use certain things
Equipment :
1 balloon
1 roll of string
1 straw
2 pins
1 scissors
we put the string from one side of the room to the other threaded the straw on blew up the balloon then taped the straw to the balloon and let the balloon travel along the string. We had to think about if the balloon was tipped down it might just spin around.

Tuesday was also my birthday  I just turned twelve I got lots of presents and had a great time.    

On Wednesday we had jump jam in Jump Jam we learnt a new song called freaks the leaders taught  us the moves then we tried to do the song it went pretty well.

On Thursday I had art. this week in art I painted the hill on canvas I also put the detailed lines on the hill. we also had a house meeting to decided which sport we will go i for winter games i'm in netball.

On Friday winter sport was cancelled till next week. We did a test on google form about ordering fractions. we did some group work on narrative story and which type it is. Today we had science we started a new challenge our challenge is to make a marble run that will be exactly twenty seconds with certain materials.

We are doing the challenge in pairs and I am doing the marble challenge Jess.
                                   

Week 3 Term 2 Starting Science

Holla                                                                                                                                                   On Monday we started new piece of writing this piece is report we are doing it on animals I choose Meerkats we got some note taking sheets and we had to read the hole thing then select certain things to put on our sheet then start to right our report about our animal we choose. Did you  know that Meerkats are only the size of a ruler when standing on their back legs. We also had a class volleyball session on Monday I was able to serve the ball and get it to the other side of the volleyball court. We learnt the different ways to hit the ball over the net you can hit it with your finger tips up into the air and over the net if you don't hit it hard enough it wont get enough height and wont go over the net another way is to put one hand on top of the other and cross your thumbs over top then hit the ball with your arms just above your wrists. We learnt about different types of characters for reading there are Static or dynamic and flat or round static characters are characters whose personality doesn't change throughout the story dynamic characters their personality has changed by the end of the story.we also learnt what a antagonist and a protagonist is a antagonist is the villain or bad guy in the story and a protagonist is the good guy character of the story.                                                                                                                                                                            On Tuesday we had our first Science session with Mrs Tyson we learnt where everything is and where we can or cant go first we learnt which part of the room is the classroom and which is the lab we only do experiments in the lab we are not allowed to go into storeroom one or two without permission. To get to storeroom two you have to go through storeroom one. We also learnt about P.O.E.W. pronounced (poo-we) the teacher she made it sound grouse  so the students would remember it. P.E.O.W stands for Predict . Observe . Explain . What If . First you predict what will happen for your experiment. Then you observe it happening. After that you explain how you think it happens. then you say what if I changed this factor ad you try that. The way Mrs Tyson gets us to pack up is we have a competition between the classes of which class can tidy up the quickest who ever got the most wins by the end of our sessions Mrs Tyson will buy hot chips for us to have one lunchtime.

On Wednesday and Thursday we did not have jump jam or french because there was a band camp on students from Cambridge middle school and another school come and stay one night and over that time they learn skills and work towards a performance on Thursday night the student from our school that are in our school band take part in the workshop as well.

On Friday we had our second session of science we did experiment that includes a lighter and a teabag we lit the top of the teabag and it burnt almost to the bottom and flew in the air.

     

     

Week 2 Term 2

Monday
Today we did a lacrosse session with Dean he has played
 in world lacrosse teams we learnt some skills and tricks like getting the ball getting the ball in the air and catching it on the back of the
head of the stick and then up in the air then catching it in the front of the head on the stick or putting the stick under your leg and flicking the ball up from under you leg and catch it. We also learnt how to properly throw the ball if you aim the stick at the ground that is where the ball will go if you aim the head of the stick towards the sky that is probably where the ball will go if you hold your hands closer to the bottom and closer together you will probably go further but you have more control over where the ball goes if you hold your hand further apart.

week 1 term 2

Hollla WELCOME! to term two of 2016 for my blog At the end of last term our class and room seven went on camp we went to the narrows. Most of us had already been to the narrows before because we went there on camp at our primary school, but it was still really fun we left school at nine on Wednesday. We technically had a mufti week because on Tuesday we had school mufti then we were on camp the rest of the week so that was mufti to. When we arrived at the narrows we unpacked and put our stuff in our cabins I was in a cabin with all my friends so it felt comfortable. Then we got into the activities my group had the water slide first we learnt that if you put your legs to far in the air or two low when you hit the water it will hurt. After that we had a shower to clean off then headed to our next activity. Which was the BMX it wasn't my favorite activity because the bikes were really small and we didn't use the proper track we had to make a rout through a paddock next to the go carts luckily the paddock was full of bumps. then we did other things like archery, trolleys air riffles and go carts there were two go carts we went in pairs and went round a loop course twice one of the go carts had foot pedals for acceleration and brakes. The other go cart had things connected to the steering weel. When Quin had is turn he went to fast round the corner and broke the go cart so we had one left. Sadly for Jess the one that still worked was the one with the foot pedals and she had to have two cushions folded over to just reach the pedals. there was a rope swing in one of the big trees near the water slide. One of the times I had a go when I jumped out of the tree my shorts got stuck and they ripped so I had one less pair of pants on camp after that. On the last day we had paintball we used sling shots to fire the paint balls and the arena we used was awesome. This week First day back at school instead of the long assembly's we usually have we had a porfiri to welcome the new Japanese teacher and the new teacher in room six because the current teacher is on maternity leave we sat there for a while and my leg started to go numb then we did maths and all the normal things in maths we learnt how to find the amount of degrees and the missing angles in a shape here is a table to show what we learnt and how to do it sides | triangles | amount of degrees 3 | 1 | 180 4 | 2 | 360 5 | 3 | 540 6 | 4 | 720 7 | 5 | 900 8 | 6 | 1080 can you see any patterns in there the way to figure this out is find the number of sides say four take away two equals two and times that by 180 so two times 180 equals 360 you d the same with any polygon. this week we had tech arts our trucks are starting to come along and we have two sessions left for wood then we move onto science can't wait to see the finished model of my truck. I also did some Belmont trials this week I tried out for netball I didn't get into the team but i don't mind I can try next year. this week I put my name down for aims games i'm going to go for gymnastics because that is something I like and I am really good at. Term 1 Week 10

This weekend I did rep netball trial sadly I did not get in, but it won't stop me from trying next year. On Saturday I had two netball grading games my team did not win. Last week we won both grading games. This year we are aiming to get into C reserve.

Week 8 & 9 Term 1

Week 8
This week we had our first two woodwork sessions. In the first session we had a tour of the workshop and learnt what the machines can do to you if you aren't careful. In our second session we started to create our first project a truck we got two pieces of wood the same size and traced truck shape out of it.A couple of weeks ago my cat got hit by my neighbors car and broke his pelvis on both sides he is healing well but one of his legs does't work and he has to live in a cage.
Week 9    
this week we had our school summer games I did dodge ball I
 wasn't going to do it because I normally have art extension instead
 I did art in the morning so I could be in the summer games to help my house win. In our tech arts this week we made grill for the front of our trucks.

Week 7 Term 1

This week I finished my bag and started to create my mouse I didn't finish it at school so when I got home I finished it. I found a thread and needle in the draw and found some stuffing in the cupboard at home.Sadly we didn't start wood work this week, but next week we are doing Monday Tuesday and Friday. On Friday at school we had a farewell assembly for our Japanese students even though they are leaving next week Tuesday morning. I hope they had a good time here and have a good trip home back to Japan.Today I did Junior Farmer with Sam and Ella. Junior Farmer is a event that Pokuru school hold every year this is the seventh year they have done it.We were minions for it and we won best dressed, and got a twenty dollar movie voucher each.      

Term1 Week 6

This week i didn't finish my bag ,but i'm close on Tuesday I will definitely finish my bag. Tuesday is our last soft materials session I wonder what we will do next for tech arts. This week we also had some Japanese exchange students come in our school they are looked after by students in our school.They are with us for about two weeks learning about New Zealand and the way we do things here. We have four in our class but five students in our class hosting students. We have three girls and one boy.We did a boat safety session in our school pool.We learnt what the main safety survival kit for when you're out on the sea. We learnt how to enter and exit a life boat. We learnt that you have to balance the wait on the boat or you will tip over.We learnt how to get back on the boat if we are all out you get the strongest person on first two people push at the legs and someone on the boat pulls you up. We learnt how to rescue someone and pull them into shore.        

Term 1 Week 5

This week I started to create a bag in tech arts I am making my bag for dance, because at the moment the bag I am using isn't very good I hope to finish it next week. I also this week took part in the school swimming my house didn't win but I, had fun I did one competitive race but didn't win and I did most of the other non competitive races.This week I played softball we went up against room 2 we one eighteen to one.  

Museum Trip

Lately we went to the Te Awamutu museum to learn about Waitangi day, we learnt all about the history that made New Zealand how it is today. Did you know that Waitangi day used to be called New Zealand day ?. We did a role play about signing the treaty and how it happened.  

Term 1 Week 4

This week we hand painted and designed a cushion for us to take home some, people did quotes and most people did a drawing of  animals or something they like. Most people also put their name or initials on it. This week we also did our swimming heats some people made it to the competitive swimming, but most other people are going to compete in our non competitive races next week at school.

Tech Arts

lately we have been working on our tennis balls in soft materials . Our tennis balls are almost done which means we can through balls inside our house without breaking things and we can make another creation.
